Rights of Victims of Armed Violence

Posted on March 4, 2014

Action on Armed Violence released a new report, Writing the Rights, an analysis of international and regional legal and policy provisions on the rights of victims of armed violence.

The report finds that existing provisions are too diverse, spanning a variety of different legal frameworks. As a result, the rights of some victims are not adequately protected. Consequently, access to the services those victims need is impeded.

The report concludes that much more needs to be done by states to ensure that the rights of all victims of armed violence are protected and that assistance is provided in a way that addresses victims’ particular circumstances and specific needs. It also includes a set of concrete recommendations.
