Victims of Nuclear Weapons

At an international conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons on 4-5 March 2013, in Oslo,  Atom Project  Honorary Ambassador Karipbek Kuyukov spoke  about the devastating impact of nuclear weapons, survivors from the bombing of Hiroshima (Hibakusha) gave personal testimonies  and the ICRC emphasized the lack of capacity to provide appropriate humanitarian assistance to survivors in the event of a nuclear explosion.

The ICRC warned that very little progress has been made on international assistance mechanisms for victims of nuclear weapons in situations of conflict. As things stand there is no effective way of delivering humanitarian assistance to victims of a nuclear blast.
